Cortijo Rosa is the latest creation of the restorers and designers of La Molineta.  On the plan of a Roman country villa with a stunning mountainscape backdrop, this new house has a remarkable garden set among ancient olive trees and mature fruit trees, just outside the village of Periana and above the historic market town of Velez Malaga. The area is a thriving fruit and olive growing region producing prize-winning olive oil at the local cooperative.

The house is furnished to an unusually high standard with antiques, paintings and books. The spacious double storey entrance hall is flooded with light from all directions and has French windows leading on to the gardens and the pool. There is a large wood burning fireplace with generous sofas and chairs and at the other end a dining table to seat 10.

Next to this is the kitchen which is provided with the latest equipment, everything ergonomically arranged for maximum convenience. There is a small breakfast table and chairs. Through the kitchen is the laundry and service area.

At the other end of the hall is the library, a comfortable smaller room with television

(UK channels), video and DVD.

At either end of the main house are the main bedrooms, benefiting from spectacular views across acres of beautiful agricultural landscape. Bedroom 1 is a large room with generous storage cupboards and bathroom with both shower unit and bath. Bedroom 2 has twin beds, plenty of cupboard space and a bathroom and Bedroom 3 has a double bed, a shower room and also plenty of cupboard space. Bedroom 4 is reached by crossing the terrace and going downstairs. It has twin beds, a pretty antique cupboard and a spacious bathroom.

Although Cortijo Rosa sleeps 8 comfortably it is not suitable for very young children as the pool and the house are linked by a rill and the main bedroom is in a different wing to the others.

The house maintains its cool in the summer through its heavily insulated walls and roofs backed up by its sophisticated air cooling system, combined with under floor heating to warm the stone and terracotta floors in winter. Heating and cooling are both supplied by an ecological solar powered system.

The gardens have been lovingly created with the help of landscape designers and a team of dedicated gardeners, in the midst of 16 acres of olives, almonds, oranges, figs, pears, pomegranates and vines.  At the heart of this plan is the sheltered courtyard with a rill leading to the swimming pool, a design inspired by the Alhambra, its Moorish influence in Andalucia and the more recent design of the wonderful Museo Picasso in Malaga.

The house is 1 hour’s drive from Malaga Airport, just over 1 hour from Granada and its airport, and 5 minutes from Periana village.
